SHREDDING THE 4th AMENDMENT
The feds have taken another liberty away from us!
Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
05/25/2011: You have all heard about the problems with the TSA groping people under the guise of security. Well, Texas has taken action against the unconstitutional activities of the TSA.
The Texas house has passed HB 1937, a bill that would have made invasive pat downs by TSA agents a felony. The vote was 138-0. The basis of the bill is our 4th Amendment right.
In retaliation, and a direct threat to our Constitutional rights, TSA officials warned that passing the bill “could close down all the airports in Texas,” which he regarded as a ‘heavy handed threat’ by the federal government. Read more...
Update 05/25/2011: The Texas Senate becomes complicit in the act of 'treason' by refusing to vote on the bill.
Patriot Act
Update 05/27/2011: The Senate approves the Patriot Act extension. The provisions of the Patriot act are clear violations of our 4th Amendment rights. Under the guise of 'security', our rights to be secure in our persons and properties without probable cause continue to be oppressed. Here is an excellent speech by Rand Paul that succinctly describes the problem. See video here. The house voted 250-153 to renew the Patriot Act, followed by a 72-23 vote to renew it in the Senate.
Interestingly, 19 Democrat Senators and only 4 Republican Senators voted against its renewal. The bill needed to be signed by the President by midnight, May 26, 2011. Where was the President? He was in France. The bill was signed into law using an 'Autopen Machine' and not by the president. Many think this is illegal, but the belief has never been tested in court.
We need to elect representatives who can protect our Constitutional right as they promised to do when they were sworn into office.
Update 05/27/2011: Both the media and some of our Representatives question the Constitutionality of the 'Autopen Signing': If a machine can sign for the President, could Sasha, too? and Rep. Graves questions Obama's autopen signing of Patriot Act extension
